Gastric bypass surgery (or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) is a kind of weight loosing surgery treatment where the patient's total size of the stomach has been reduced to a smaller pouch. After than it has been attached to a tube of intestine to the pouch that bypass approximately about two feet of intestines.
According to studies it has been proven that after undergoing gastric bypass surgery to lose weight the obese people carry lesser chance of having a heart attack or other cardiovascular problems.
Thanks to Gastric bypass surgery the stomach gets smaller and it is able to allow food to avoid part of the small intestine. Due to this, compared to past, the patient feels full earlier because his or stomach becomes smaller than its original size. It leads to loss of weight and consumption of lesser calories. Restriction of amount of food makes the patient eat less and inhibits absorption of some calories.
According to an extensive study being undertaken by a prominent hospital in US, gastric bypass surgery has successfully reduced the risk for a future cardiovascular problem to the tune of up to 79 percent. The study also found that the chance of having a heart attack (or need for heart surgery or dying of heart disease in the 10 years total time has fell from 7 percent to 3 percent. For people who did not have surgery, the probability fell from 7 percent to 6 percent.
