Last week we celebrated the birth of the Declaration of Independence, and one of the most famous lines in that document begins, "We hold these truths to be self-evident..."
In the Declaration, the founding fathers write about equality, alienable rights and... Well, we're sure you've all read it so you know Exactly where its located and what it says on your own without us having to babble on..
If the document was written today, we think the self-evident 'truths' would be a wee bit different. Such as...
We hold these truths to be self-evident...
-- That all men (and women) deserve to receive perpetual extensions of the Bush tax cuts because it is a God-given right to continually pay less and less taxes for the maintenance of the nation. We also understand all politicians including a President are Fucking scum liars always going back on their word during a campaign but are quickly forgiven if said person possesses a pleasant disposition.
** Yes, yes.. but Romney IS Wall St. and doesn't care at all about the middle class, etc... Sincerely agreed.. Let's continue
-- That our individual pursuit of happiness supersede any harsh realities of others or nation altogether; that we have a Right under Natural Law to consciously and intentionally tune out all problems and concerns that do not affect us individually and directly, and we demand our Government assist in implementing necessary mass distractions to ensure we're kept blissfully unaware.
-- That we may enjoy liberty as long as it is State-approved; that we may be free to speak our minds as long as it doesn't offend anyone or fail the Secret Service litmus test of 'appropriate'; that we may paint, sketch, write and create any form of outward expression we want as long as at least one person is not offended or deems it salacious, pornographic or threatening...
-- That America is to stay a two-party political system now and forevermore into eternity; that we demand no political positions or points of view to be given any validity unless one of the two major parties spout it and it is borderline treasonous for a person think to ever vote, much less consider an alternative candidate with a unique set of ideas.
We could go on but actually this is an exercise you can do at home... get a pen and a piece of paper, and jot down honesty all the things you believe you are entitled to; freedoms, government protections, etc... just take some time and write down your thoughts..
What? Too much work? OK, Fine.. Or you can lay back on your recliner, laugh to yourself how silly postings like this are, then drift off to sleep...
Just don't ask us to tuck you in and kiss your forehead...
